Dyke & Dean re-manufacture of the original storm lantern finished in glossy dark blue painted steel. Made in France with tooling dating back to 1911. Painted in Latvia by our main metal factory insuring a life long quality powder-coated paint finish.
A full lamp will keep burning for about 24 hours using either kerosene, paraffin or other lantern fuels. Can be hung in a decorative fashion, or taken with you for camping trips as a reliable light source. These particular versions are slightly bigger than others on the market making them ideal for outdoor dining tables, pathways, bars, and mood lighting.
Based on an era design made to be durable, as a safety precaution it will require a bit of strength to open the first few times.
- How to store when not in use : Our lanterns are mostly made of galvanised steel sheet, which is then powder coated. These materials are resistant to oxidisation. However, we advise to keep the lamp sheltered from the weather after use in a dry place, and out of reach of children.
- Recommended oil : Lantern fuels such as clear lamp oil (liquid paraffin) and kerosene are suitable for lanterns, however the manufacturer recommends paraffin oil as it is odourless, smokeless and burns relatively cleanly.
- Is it safe to use indoors : The Lantern must be used in a well ventilated area. Like a candle, there is always a little smoke and it is better to light it outside as there is the potential for more smoke when lighting. The wick must also be well adjusted to limit the fumes (and blackening of the glass) - around 1cm - 2cm which can then be adjusted once lit.
- Is it safe to use in a tent : Not recommended although it can be acceptable in a large tent with openable windows, if held above the ground. In addition to the smoke problem, there is a risk of fire if the lamp is too close to the tent canvas. Never sleep while the lantern is lit.
Carry Handle and 160mm wick included
24hr Burning Time
300mm Tall - 400mm Tall Unfolded Handle - 800g
Please note, some images may include our Dyke & Dean logo as a watermark which does not appear on the product itself and that some colours and finishes may vary due to screen calibration.
